Staff in Helensburgh attend Emergency Life Support training facilitated by Heartstart
On Friday 15th July 2016, eight members of staff from Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) and Argyll Homes for All (AHFA), the Association’s repairs subsidiary, completed a two hour Emergency Life Support training session, run by Sheenah Nelson and colleagues from Heartstart Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary, Helensburgh and Local District Defrillator Association, Charity Number SC005716.
The training was carried out following the recent installation of a Defibrillator on the exterior of Lamont House.
Heartstart Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary is an initiative co-ordinated by the British Heart Foundation to teach members of the public what to do in a life-threatening emergency.
ACHA’s Chief Executive. Alastair MacGregor, commented;
“Following the installation of the defibrillator at our offices in Helensburgh we thought it vital that training support was given to staff to be able to use it if the need ever occurred. I would like to thank colleagues for attending the training and obtaining the skill set to deal with an emergency.”
Staff members were taught how to deal with life threatening situations including:
- dealing with an unconscious person
- the signs and symptoms of a heart attack
- recognising a cardiac arrest and performing CPR
- dealing with choking
- dealing with serious bleeding.
Sheenah Nelson, Heartstart Co-ordinator for Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary commented;
“It was a pleasure to deliver Heartstart/Defibrillator Awareness training for your members of staff following the installation of a PAD (Publically Accessible Defibrillator) on the outside of Lamont House. Thank you to ACHA for hosting the valuable, life-saving piece of equipment, which may at a later date be a vital piece of the chain in saving a life. To date three lives have been saved in the community.”
