Revised Planning Application Submitted for Dalintober
A revised planning application has been submitted by ECD Architects on behalf of Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) for a new development at Dalintober, Campbeltown.
Scottish Ministers had, following an appeal, granted permission to demolish five blocks (46 flats) of the Category B listed tenements buildings dating from 1939 in the Dalintober Housing Estate. The buildings are not able to be demolished until planning permission for a new development has been granted.
The application includes plans for 37 dwellings which if successful will comprise of 8 cottage flats, 11 houses, 6 amenity houses for older people and 12 flatted properties for low cost home ownership. 4 of the properties will be wheelchair readily adaptable. Previous tenants who moved to facilitate the demolition of the tenements will be given an option to return to one of the new build properties.
The previous planning application was withdrawn as there was a need to amend the plans to take into account flood prevention measures. At the same time, Argyll and Bute Council declared a housing emergency and ACHA used the opportunity to increase the number of units being provided on the site to help with the emergency.
Cathy Grant, Chair of ACHA’s Board of Management stated;
“The Dalintober project provides a unique and exciting opportunity to develop an exemplary multi-generational solution with community, place-making, and health and well-being at its heart.“
Michelle Mundie, ACHA’s Chief Executive added;
“This project not only seeks to respond positively to the climate emergency but also helps with Argyll and Bute’s Housing Emergency and creates an opportunity to secure economic regeneration. We also hope to be able to release a statement in the near future about improvement works to our existing stock in the Campbeltown area.”
