Housing Hero Opens New Homes in Tarbert
Argyll Community Housing Association has just completed its first new build homes in Oakfield, Tarbert.
The 8 new 1 and 2 bedroom homes were officially opened by retired Sheltered Housing warden and housing volunteer Sandra MacKenzie.
For 30 years Sandra worked as a Sheltered Housing warden and then, following retirement, served as a housing association Board member.
Alastair MacGregor, ACHA’s Chief Executive, commented at the opening
“To have Sandra carrying out this opening in her home village in a community where she gave so much to housing and caring is fully warranted.”
He further added
“I have known Sandra for 10 years and in that time I would simply describe her as a Housing Hero. Unstinting service to her tenants and others, and she has also been a hardworking voluntary Committee member dedicated to helping those in housing need”.
The properties were built in just over a year by Mid Argyll based construction firm M&K MacLeod to a value of just over £1million. Financial contributions to the building work came from the Scottish Government, ACHA and Argyll and Bute Council.
The official opening involved the unveiling of a plaque by Sandra MacKenzie and the keys to the new homes being handed over to the new tenants.
