Housing association gets its man
Appointment of Chief Executive 'crucial' to transfer process

Argyll Community Housing Association Limited (ACHA) has appointed a chief executive to take the organisation through housing transfer and deliver on its commitments to the tenants of Argyll and Bute. Alastair MacGregor, who lives in Connel, has been appointed to the post and will officially take up the reins in September.

Alastair has been working on secondment to ACHA for the past 18 months. He has a successful track record in the housing association movement with over 18 years experience and 15 years as Chief Executive of Queens Cross Housing Association in Glasgow. He has also worked successfully on five previous housing transfers.

Norman Beaton, chairman of ACHA, said, “The appointment of the right candidate is crucial to the transfer process and we are delighted to have been able to appoint a chief executive of Alastair’s calibre from a very good field of candidates. He was in the unique position of not only having a detailed knowledge of the social housing sector, but also an intimate understanding of the needs and desires of local communities.

“I and the entire Management Committee would like to offer him our congratulations and look forward to working with him to deliver a positive result in the upcoming ballot and then delivering on our commitments to tenants in the coming years.”

Alastair commented, “I was delighted to accept this position when it was offered. ACHA has been built on solid foundations with a good team of people working towards the transfer. I’m confident that the work we’ve done so far in drawing up

ambitious plans and communicating these to tenants will deliver a positive outcome in the ballot, and that we will then be able to deliver improved housing and a better service for all ACHA tenants.”

The appointment of a chief executive was made possible following the news that ACHA is now fully incorporated, making it an official organisation, able to conduct business in its own name, including the recruitment of staff.

ACHA’s incorporation as a separate legal entity is a vital step in the organisation’s development. It has been set up as an Industrial and Provident Society, registered with the Financial Services Authority, meaning that it will operate like other housing associations, re-investing all surpluses back into the organisation to provide better housing services and facilities for its tenants after transfer.
