ACHA gives companies opportunity to get involved in £261 millioninvestment programme

Demand for information sees ACHA add second date

Over 60 building service contractors, from across Argyll and Bute and beyond, have attended two events at which Argyll Community Housing Association Limited (ACHA) explained details of its multi-million pound investment programme for tenants’ homes, the largest ever undertaken in Argyll.

The first event, which also provided an opportunity for contractors to find out the implications of new EU legislation and the process that the awarding of contracts will take, proved so popular that a second date was added.

ACHA is encouraging contractors to bid for home improvements work including kitchens, bathrooms and double glazing. ACHA’s improvement programme will see over £261 million spent on tenant’s homes over the next 30 years.

ACHA Chairman Norman Beaton commented, “ACHA’s investment programme is huge and unprecedented in Argyll and Bute. With the help of contractors we will be carrying out substantial improvements to tenants’ homes and it’s therefore extremely important that we find the right companies to work with.

“We have said from the start that our plans will benefit both tenants and local economies; this is the latest stage in delivering on those plans. It’s extremely encouraging that there has been such a high level of interest in these conferences which were beneficial for all involved.”

In recent weeks contract notices have been placed in the official European Union journal. Those that reply to the adverts will shortly be receiving pre qualification questionnaires. These must be returned by April 20 ahead of a shortlist of bidders being drawn up. Any contractor who hasn’t yet requested a prequalification questionnaire and would like one should get in touch with Gayle Stead at ACHA.

Preliminary work to select appropriate contractors in 12 categories is taking place now to ensure that the procurement process is on track ahead of transfer which is expected to take place later this year, subject to consent by the Scottish Executive.
