Welfare Rights is a free and confidential service for tenants. We offer help and advice on all aspects of the benefit system and how this may affect you and your family.

Claiming Universal Credit

To make a claim for Universal Credit please click on the video for a demonstration following the step by step instructions. The video also includes information on what you will need to make your claim, for example, your bank details, national insurance number, your weekly rent amount to claim housing costs within your universal credit claim. You can claim Universal Credit at www.gov.uk/apply-universal-credit

Universal Credit will replace the following benefits for new claimants of working age:-

  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit

If you need to make a new application for any of these benefits you will need to apply for Universal Credit online. You will need details of your rent charge to ensure that your housing costs are included in the claim.
