The benefits of transfer

The positive ballot result has unlocked investment that is not available to the Council, whilst giving tenants a greater say in the management of their homes.

The Scottish Executive will now provide £40 million towards ACHA’s business plan as well as removing the Council's housing debt. There will also be a further £10-£15 million made available to the Council in regeneration funding for investment throughout Argyll and Bute, released as a direct result of the transfer. This financial package from the Scottish Executive will put ACHA in a position to improve tenants’ homes and housing services and have a positive impact on the wider needs of the community.

Transfer will also give tenants the opportunity to take part in decision making, allowing tenants a real opportunity to decide on priorities for their homes. For details of how you can get involved click here.

Wider community benefits

As well as directly benefiting tenants and the housing service, ACHA’s investment programme will be a welcome boost for the local economy. In the next 5 years ACHA will spend over £13million each year on major improvements and maintenance work to houses. We anticipate that partnership agreements with local contractors will provide a boost to local economies and long-term economic stability. This will also result in traditional 4-year apprenticeships being made available to local people. In addition to this ACHA intends to build 150 new homes every year over a ten-year period which will not only provide much needed new housing for rent but also further strengthen local economies.
